History of the Pot Pie House
This beautiful home has been remodeled with a designer's touch! The
charm is not only in the beauty of the home, but also in its history. The previous owners were "Miss Peggy" - never
seen without her sun bonnet - and Candy Bar, a local legend. His nickname, "Candy Barrel" (shortened to "Candy
Bar") was given to him by his classmates because he loved candy-root-beer barrels.
The Village Of Pot Pie
Even though the Pot Pie House is in the village of Wittman, it's known to locals as "Pot Pie."
Long time residents, Percy Marshall (born 1899) and his wife Anna, disagreed about the real story. In a 1976
newspaper interview, Percy explained the town was named after Mr. Wittman, who first came here for a visit in 1925.
Percy said, "There were many different stories about how "Pot Pie" got the name. In the old
days, Wittman was a fishing village where most men worked on the water. Wives never knew when their husbands would come
home so they made sure they had a "pot pie" ready and waiting." Percy's wife, Anna told
her version, "It started when the local Methodist preacher visited a different family in his congregation for dinner each Sunday
and Sunday dinner was the same at each home..."Chicken Pot Pie." No one knows the true story but the name stuck
and is Pot Pie to this day.
